Business Profile

NVQs in cleaning are delivered through a network of workplace training colleges, Merton Enterprise Centre (MEC). MEC is managed by Mary Schramm, who has over 20 years experience as a manager and trainer in the cleaning sector. It is a highly-regarded training provider for the cleaning industry, offering all BICSc courses. MEC have been working with many large corporations and organisations over the last 8 years, delivering a high-quality service and achieving excellent results. The assessors have long-term experience in the cleaning industry, enabling them to provide thorough and up-to-date training. All the colleges have been delivering training in this sector for many years, with the quality assurance that comes from being part of established education providers to their communities. This quality is reflected in the high number of satisfied clients, both public and private sector, at each of the colleges. In addition, Matthew Boulton College have recently won a Queens Award for Industry for their contribution in this area, and Merton College has won a £350,000 contract to run additional training to the industry from the European Social Fund. The vital part of any work-based training is that it ensures staff are gaining the skills their employer needs. The cleaning industry is no exception - this area of work is crucial to hygiene and health and safety and employers must have the confidence that staff are trained properly and accredited on the basis of their ability to put knowledge into practice. That is why Merton College, Doncaster College, Accrington & Rossdales College and Matthew Boulton College have formed a consortium to deliver training with integrity and to the highest possible standards - qualities that, sadly, are not always the case in the industry. All four colleges have an undisputed reputation for quality in the field of cleaning science. Now, through sharing best practice and with government funding are able to offer training which we are sure is the best in the industry. And that isn't just our opinion - Mike Helby in Cleaning & Hygiene Today wrote that: 'I was very pleased to hear that the four top cleaning science colleges in the country...have pooled their resources...Their experience and know-how should provide a benchmark for good training.'
